Iconostasis

This is a very unusual iconographic subject in which is depicted an entire Russian iconostasis, or icon screen. In the Orthodox church the iconostasis separates the nave from the sanctuary and, particularly in the Russian tradition, tends to be many tiers in height. This particular icon is most likely from the 18th century and has saints on the sides and the Four Evangelist in the corners.
